“O” God Sex

By learning how to focus and direct your energy, you can turn so-so sex into Oh God sex.

My theme for the past few essays has been soul-freeing sex. The philosopher Osho says in his book Sex Matters that sex offers a glimpse of oneness with God. Orgasm is a state outside of time and space in which there is no time; only pure ecstasy, total freedom, and perfect peace. The ecstatic state rekindles the soul’s memory of being at home with God.

Ecstatic states of orgasm can be enhanced by learning how to channel your energy. As Alex Grey beautifully depicts in his Sacred Mirrors Project paintings, human beings are energy beings. While we think that making love is a physical activity, it is really an energy activity. At very subtle levels, we exchange energy with our partners during lovemaking. The union that lovers experience occurs because their energy bodies have literally melded into one another.

The exercise below will move energy up and down your spine.

This exercise is best done in a semi-reclining position, with your upper body propped up on a few pillows. Start with your hands in prayer position on front of your heart. Rub your palms together until they feel tingly. Bring your palms up and hold them about three or four inches in front of your face. Feel your hands heating your face. Imagine that your hands radiated beams of white light. Turn your hands so that your fingertips are facing each other, and your palms are facing down. Keep your hands about two — four inches above your body. Gradually draw your hands down your body towards your torso. Make sure your hands are placed so that they are on either side of your spine, but keep your fingertips touching lightly. Slowly, slowly move your hands all the way down as far as they will reach. The more slowly you do this the better. All the time you are doing this, imagine that your hands are beaming light to your body. When you get as far as your hands will reach, which should be about the base your torso, draw your hands back up your torso the same way. When your hands reach your heart, circle them out from the center of your body, separating your fingertips about an inch or so, as is comfortable, and bring them back down to the end of your torso. Bring your fingertips together again and draw your hands back up your spine. You are creating a circle of energy that’s bridging the energy from the base of your torso to your heart and back again.

As you are doing this, do a sexual breath exercise that Margo Anand suggests. As your hands are moving up your body, inhale through slightly parted lips. When your hands reach your heart, relax your jaw, and exhale through an open mouth while bringing your circling your hands down your body. Focus on the open-lipped inhale as you bring your hands back up, and do the relaxed, open mouth exhale when circling your hands back down.

Some people who do this work begin to feel a heightened sense of arousal that starts in the genitals but is drawn up the entire torso. They feel tingling in every cell and a sense of expansion beyond they’re bodily limits. Some people enter altered states of conscious that parallel orgasmic states.

This exercise serves many purposes among them are:

1. Orgasmic states are not ruled by the genitals

2. Orgasmic states can occur without physically touching the body

3. Energy and breath are connected

By taking time to feel how powerful directing your energy can be, you can use this technique when you are with your partner so that so-so sex becomes Oh God sex!
